All 2011 fleeces are now reserved. Thank you! If you missed out, I"m very sorry - they went in the span of 36 hours. If you would like to be on a "second dibs" list please let me know. Sometimes fleeces become available again due to health or changing circumstances and I would be glad to accomodate you if you missed out on the formal reservations.

For any folks who have emailed me concerning fleece and not gotten a reply......... please check your spam filter/file for my email and/or resend your email and include a phone number. I answer ALL emails - usually within a day - so if you don't get an answer it's because your question or my reply has gone into limbo.

2011 Wool Fleece

All non-Cotswold sheep are jacketed year round to provide the discriminating handspinner with beautiful fiber, free of vegetation and sunburning. The fleeces are then heavily skirted to ensure that all the fiber you receive will be of prime spinning quality. Fleeces may be purchased whole or divided in half. Half fleeces are always divided from head to tail. The flock is shorn in early March. Following shearing, fleeces will be available* (* see note at bottom regarding Show Fleeces) on a first-come, first-served basis unless reserved. A charge of $20 per fleece will positively hold a particular fleece for you. This fee will be applied to the final purchase price of the fleece. Final price is determined by fleece weight following skirting. Expected fleece weights are listed with each fleece. If a flaw is discovered in a reserved fleece, I will email you as soon as it's discovered.

Free samples - small lock of the fleece - may be requested to confirm color.

Note: If you are outside of the USA, please check with your country's regulations regarding importing RAW fleece prior to purchasing from us. And, additional shipping charges will likely apply.

OK, the picture is not that flattering. I sent her fleece to the new owner without taking a picture and only had fiber from the uncoated neck to take pics of. Duh. Still, you can see the nice firm crimp, good length and some luster. This is a springy, dense fleece with nice lock structure. And what a great example of uncoated wool being dirtier than coated ones, like Gooseberry above. $15.00 per lb. Full fleece approx. 7 lb.

White Cotswold Wool

There is not a great deal of variation in the fleeces of the white Cotswolds, so we do not list them individually as we did with the other sheep above. We sell raw, skirted Cotswold fleece by the pound, but we can use all that's available in our handspinning roving, so quantities for sale are sometimes limited.  If we are sold out, or if you want to order over 15 pounds, please contact us for info on when it would be available.  $12.00 per lb.

There is some difference between a Cots lamb fleece, and fleece from older animals. In general, we find it to be finer and silkier.  We sell raw, skirted lamb fleece by the pound, usually starting in September, when some lambs are shorn before going to market.  If you are interested, please contact us for info on availability.  $18.00 per lb.

Colored Cotswold Wool

Our Colored Cotswolds vary quite a bit in color. Most individuals bear a range of grays shading to black. Some are predominantly pale to medium silver with just a little black on the neck and legs, others are the reverse. All have high luster and good curl. We sell raw, skirted Cotswold fleece by the pound, but we can use all that's available in our handspinning roving, so quantities for sale are sometimes limited.  If we are sold out, or if you want to order over 15 pounds, please contact us for info on when it would be available.  $12.00 per lb.

**First Shearing

The first fleece shorn from a sheep is often considered the softest the animal will ever produce, and is very desirable for handspinning. Many natural colored sheep at Nistock Farms will fade to gray, often by their second shearing, so these fleeces are often the darkest available, too. Lamb fleeces from Nistock Farms have been coated, and are well skirted, just like the adult's.

* RESERVED SHOW FLEECE

Nistock Farms attends several sheep and wool festivals yearly and regularly exhibits several fleeces. If you are interested in a fleece we plan to exhibit, please ask if you can reserve it for purchase after the show. Some shows require fleeces to be sold at that venue and may not be available for reservation this year.
